Norma L. Bunger, 96, of Franklin, formerly of Upland, passed away on Saturday, September 21, 2019 at the Franklin Care and Rehabilitation Center. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September28, 2019 at Bethany Lutheran Church in Minden with the Rev. Donald Hunzeker and PMA Julie Schmidt officiating. Interment will be held following services at 1:30 p.m. at the Emmanuel Lutheran Cemetery south of Hildreth. Visitation will be held one hour prior to service times at the church. Memorials in Norma's honor are kindly suggested to the family for later designation. Craig Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Norma was born on February 3, 1923 in rural Upland, to Louis and Eva (Biesel) Scharff. She grew up in the Upland area and graduated from Upland High School with the class of 1940. On April 16, 1947, she was united in marriage to Alvin Bunger and to this union, three children were born, Valerie, Galen and Gary. The family made their home near Upland where Norma enjoyed homemaking and helping with the family farm. Norma was also employed at the Upland Bank and Bethphage Mission in Axtell before retiring.
Norma was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Minden and the Upland American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed playing cards, Yahtzee, spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, gardening, tending to her flowers, baking and canning.
Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter, Valerie Hogeland and husband Thomas of Hildreth; sons, Galen Bunger and wife Amy of Upland, and Gary Bunger and wife Mary of Hildreth; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; sister, Detta Ann Walker of Akron, CO; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Alvin in 1978, two grandchildren, Michelle Egenberger, and Michael Hogeland, and sister, Pearl Kinney.
