Dudley Dale Wells
Axtell --Dudley Dale Wells, 85, of Axtell NE died on Friday, August 4th, 2017 at Kearney Regional Medical Center. Services will be at 11AM, Thursday August 10th at Trinity Lutheran Church in Axtell with the Rev. Gale Dorn officiating. Burial will be at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Axtell. Visitation will be from 6 PM to 8 PM on Wednesday August 9th, at Craig Funeral Home in Minden, with the family present.
Dudley Dale Wells was born July 17th, 1932 in Axtell, Nebraska to Lee R. and Laura Gertrude (Gustafson) Wells. On May 15th, 1955, he married Carrol Jean Twombly of Minden at the Fredericksburg Lutheran Church, southeast of Minden. She preceded him in death. They were married for 59 years.
Dudley was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church of Axtell. He taught Sunday School at Trinity for approximately 45 years, He was raised in a loving Christian home, and his faith was evident throughout his life.
He attended Axtell Community School, graduating in 1949. He fought on the front line in the Korean Conflict and received an honorable discharge. Upon return to the states, he and Carrol married and took up residence on the family farm, where he continued to farm up to the day preceding his death.
Dudley loved and lived life to its fullest. His faith in God was unwavering and ever present. "My people" he would say when referencing his family. He loved baseball, fast trains and had a sincere curiosity for the world and the people in it. He will be fondly remembered for his service to God, his service to his fellows, his donuts at church, and his interest in youth sports programs in Axtell.
Most important to Dudley was salvation through Jesus Christ, his beloved wife Carrol, his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, family and friends. With rejoicing, he has gone home to be with his God.
Survivors include his sister Jane Behrhorst and her husband Rodney of Kearney; son Mark Wells and wife Nancy of Axtell, daughter Jennifer Wells of Dexter, Oregon, daughter Ann O'Sullivan of Wahoo; grandchildren Rachel Hawkins and husband Keith, Brent Wells and wife Cassie, all of Axtell, Blake Wells and his fiancé Katie Goll, of Funk, Cristin Rhoades and husband Jon of Aurora, Amy O'Sullivan, of Omaha and Scott O'Sullivan, of Lincoln; great grandchildren Ashton and Morgan Hawkins, Ryleigh and Madison Wells, Micah, Emary, Issac, and Sarah Rhoades; and many family and friends. He is preceded in death by his wife, Carrol and brother, Roger.
Memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church, Axtell, or the Axtell Ball Association.
