Gilbert Hubert, 79 years of age from Kearney, formerly of Minden passed away Monday, November 14, 2016 at Kearney Regional Medical Center in Kearney. Celebration of Life will be on Thursday, November 17, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Kearney with Pastor Duane Duley officiating. Layton-Craig Funeral Home in Minden is in charge of arrangements.

Gilbert was born on July 23, 1937 in Holdrege, NE to Paul and Evon (Fritz) Hubert. Gilbert grew up in Minden and graduated from Minden High School in 1956.

Gilbert married Vera Jean Sorensen on February 1, 1959 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Minden. They made their home in Minden. Gilbert was a livestock feed salesman for Walnut Grove for 32 years. They moved to Kearney in 2002 and have wintered in Texas for 20 years. They made many great friends in Texas.

Gilbert and Vera Jean's life revolved around their family. They all have fond memories of the times at Summer Haven. Gilbert drove the boat and his kids would ski all day long. His children called him a master boat driver. He enjoyed people and visiting; he was a great "fix it' man. He was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Kearney. Memorials are suggested to the church.

Survivors include his wife, Vera Jean of Kearney; three daughters, Paula Englund (Dave) of Omaha, Sheila Rasmussen (Scott) of Gibbon and Teresa Wooldridge (Dr. Terry) of Valley; son, Andy Hubert (Sharie) of Geneva; 12 grandchildren, Christopher Englund (Jess), Preston Englund (Ashley), Kirsten Burklund (Ben), Peter Rasmussen, Jena Seitz (Eric), Dr. Kilie Donovan (Dr. Tim), Dr. Karisa Hajek (Dr. Ryan), Brett Stover-Wooldridge, Jessica Wooldridge, Charlie Wooldridge, Paul Hubert (Addie) and Evan Hubert; 4 great grandchildren, Keaton and Parker Englund and Declan and Conor Seitz; and sister, Clarice Luis (Ron) of Harrison, Arkansas. He is preceded in death by a sister, Karen Hubert.
