Obituary

Alden William Talbert, age 88, passed from this earthly life to be with Jesus on Wednesday, September 20, 2023, at Bethany Home in Minden, Nebraska. Memorial services will be on Friday, September 29, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at the Westminster United Presbyterian Church in Minden with Reverend Sharon Rees officiating. The service will be live streamed to the church's Facebook page. Private family burial will be at the Eaton Cemetery, Heartwell, NE. Alden was a lifelong resident and farmer in Kearney County, Nebraska. Craig Funeral Home in Minden, Nebraska is in charge of arrangements.

Alden was born on September 24, 1934, in Minden, Nebraska to Myrtha and Wilmer Talbert. After completing high school in Kenesaw, Nebraska, Alden attended and graduated from Sterling College in Sterling, Kansas, where he met the love of his life, Wilma Carinder. Alden and Wilma married July 29, 1956, at the Sterling Presbyterian Church. They lived in Sterling for a year so Alden could finish college graduating in 1957. While there, Alden and Wilma ran the rec hall. Alden was proud of his service in the National Guard while attending college.

Together, they moved to Kearney County, Nebraska, where Alden farmed with his dad. There Alden and Wilma started their family having five children—William "Bill," Kathryn "Kathy," Troy, Tammi, and James "Jim."

Alden was a member and elder of Westminster United Presbyterian Church in Minden. He had a beautiful singing voice and sang in the Sterling College choir, a quartet with his brother Arden, and church choir.

Alden had a gift for mechanics and enjoyed restoring antique Case tractors. He saw the potential in each tractor he bought and frequently would decide a tractor, which he had intended to use for parts, was too nice to scrap. Alden was also fond of watching sports and a faithful University of Nebraska football fan.

Alden is preceded in death by his parents, his sister Nelia Greer, and his brother Arden Talbert. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife Wilma on the farm, his sister-in-law and her spouse Sue and David Dennett of Augusta, Kansas, his children and their spouses—Bill and Sharon Talbert of Heartwell, Nebraska, Kathy and Terry Scott of Lincoln, Nebraska, Troy and Cindy Talbert of Juniata, Nebraska, Tammi and Paul Traeger of Bennett, Nebraska, and Jim and Kari Talbert of Scott City, Kansas. Alden had 6 grandchildren—Justian Scott, Nick Scott, Mike Scott, Kati (Scott) Miller, Becky Traeger, and Annie Talbert; as well as step-grandchildren—Misty Robinson and Natasha Pringle; 17 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.

Memorials are kindly suggested to Westminster United Presbyterian Church, Minden, Nebraska, or Sterling College, Sterling, Kansas.
