Anita "Nita" May Gleason was born on May 21, 1930, she was the youngest child to John and Helene I. (Liebers) Gleason. She attended rural school and graduated from Minden High School. Following graduation, she was offered a job at a law firm, but she declined the offer to work on the Gleason family farm where she lived all her life.
She was a member of the Minden United Methodist Church. She was a dedicated family member helping whenever a baby was born or playing ball with her nieces and nephews.
Nita had many hobbies, including stitchery projects, gardening, flowers, cooking, baking and was an avid canner. She proudly showed off her garden and its produce to anyone that was interested. Anita was a caretaker for her mother and sister, Aurel, until each passed away.
Christmas was Anita's favorite holiday, and she will be fondly remembered for making each one special. The day after Thanksgiving, she could be found making Christmas cookies and candies, which were then shared with friends and neighbors (both local and at a distance). Her Christmas tree was always lit with real candles, which she would light for all her guests. Anita always hosted Christmas meals on December 25, and she ensured that each person that came had their favorite foods served.
She enjoyed playing cards on Saturdays with her sister, Aurel, and two neighbors. They would often play until 2:00 a.m. and then have a meal. Anita always welcomed a visitor and would share advice if asked.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Wilbur (Loretta), Carl (Nola), and Ralph; sisters, Hazel (Clifford Taylor), Helen (Tom Poore), Aurel, Camilla (Gerald Hegarty) and an infant sister; along with several nieces and nephews.
Those left to cherish her memory include many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, extended relatives and close friends.
