Arthur C. Chavez, 93, of Minden, passed away on Tuesday, November 17, 2020 at Bethany Home in Minden. Private family graveside services will be held at Liberty Cemetery north of Minden with the Rev. Julius Tvrdy officiating. Military honors will be presented by the Minden American Legion and Heartwell Veterans of Foreign Wars. Public visitation will be held from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 19, 2020 at Craig Funeral Home in Minden. The current health recommendations will be followed and the use of a face covering is required. Memorials in Arthur's honor are kindly suggested to Bethany Home in Minden. Craig Funeral Home in Minden is in charge of the arrangements.

Arthur signed up for the Army in 1945 at the age of 17 and was 18 when he was able to serve. Training was in Mississippi. Arthur (Art as his friends called him) then shipped out of New York to Belgium, France and then Germany which included the cities of Marburg, Mannheim where he was assigned to Patrol Duty. Arthur was assigned to the 504th Military Police Battalion. He was an M.P. in Frankfurt. Some sources say he was charged with escorting prisoners to and from the trails in Nuremberg, Germany. In Heidelberg, Germany he was assigned to Heavy Weapons duty. Art was then assigned to the patrol duty in the northern part of Japan for approximately four to five months. He then returned to the states and finished his Army career in Virginia. Arthur married Ruth Sanchez in Scottsbluff, Nebraska in April of 1949. They raised a family in Scottsbluff and resided there for many years.
