Bonnie Louise Smith, 84 years of age from Kearney, NE, formerly of Oregon passed away on Wednesday, April 5, 2017 at Mt. Carmel Home and Rehabilitation Center in Kearney. Memorial services will be on Monday, April 10, 2017 at 4:45 p.m. at Mt. Carmel with Father Tom Mullowney officiating. Burial will be later in Oregon. Layton-Craig Funeral Home in Minden is in charge of arrangements.
Bonnie was born in Prineville, Oregon on February 18, 1933 to John and Catherine (Weien) Warnstaff. At 16 she married her first love, Robert Delude; they had three girls Cathey, Mary and Jackie.
In 1963 Bonnie graduated from nursing school. She was trained by the doctors she worked with to become a surgical nurse. She had a real passion for her job. Her mission in life was to be a caregiver, which she performed with all her heart.
John passed away and in 1973 she married Carl Smith. They purchased a ranch and moved to Spray, Oregon. Along with ranching, they also owned and operated a restaurant, where she loved to prepare the home cooked meals for the customers.
After the death of her husband, Carl in 2003, Bonnie decided to move to Nebraska to be with her family. In 2005, she moved to Kearney.
In October of 2016 Mount Carmel became her new home. With the kind and caring staff, Mount Carmel became her happy place. Bonnie became "Bon Bon" to the staff. They all remember her smile and laughter she brought to the home. Memorials are suggested to Mt. Carmel in Kearney.
Survivors include three daughters, Catherine Chase and husband, Don of Kearney, Mary Beinke of Kearney and Jackie Delude of Pendleton, OR; three step-children, Pennie Abbas and husband, Butch of Redmond, OR, Sharie Matteson and husband, Chuck of Fossil, OR and Jim Smith and wife, Esther of Redmond, OR; four grandchildren; four great grandchildren and eight great-great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her two husbands, grandson, Shawn Chase, one sister and one brother.
