Dorothy A. M. Nelson, 93, of Minden, passed away on Saturday, August 9, 2025 at Bethany Home in Minden. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, August 14, 2025 at Bethany Lutheran Church in Minden with Rev. Donald Hunzeker and PMA Julie Schmidt officiating. The family requests casual attire. The service will be streamed to the church's YouTube page. Interment will be held following the service at the Minden Cemetery. Visitation with family present will be held from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 13, 2025 at Craig Funeral Home in Minden. Memorials in Dorothy's honor are kindly suggested to Bethany Lutheran Church in Minden, Bethany Home in Minden, or to AseraCare Hospice in Kearney. Arrangements are under the care of Craig Funeral Home in Minden.
Dorothy Anna Marie Nelson was born on October 17, 1931 in Minden to Elmer N. and Elda M. (Olson) Johansen. She grew up mostly in Kearney County and graduated from Minden High School in 1950. On June 21, 1950, she married Gene Nelson, and to this union 2 sons were born: Jerry and Terry. They lived on the farm in rural Kearney County until March of 1985, when they moved into Minden. Following Gene's passing, Dorothy was united in marriage to William "Bill" Penney on July 31, 2004.
She was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Minden. Dorothy enjoyed reading and loved spending time with her family. She was so loving and accepting of others.

Those left to cherish her memory include her sons, Jerry Nelson, Terry (Marie) Nelson, Fred (Dorothy) Penney, and John (Leslie) Penney; grandchildren, Matthew (Lacy) Fredrickson, Michelle Hart (special friend, Lee German), Megan ( Webb) Antholz, Paul (Amber) Nelson and Carmen Penney; great-grandchildren, Brady (Haidyn) Fredrickson, Hunter Fredrickson (fiancé, Annika), Eliza Fredrickson, Jane, Josalynn, and Jalissa Antholz, James & Spencer Nelson; sisters, Jeannette Johansen and Marlene Sanders; brother, Larry (Jan) Johansen; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended relatives and close friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, Gene Nelson and William Penney; daughter-in-law, Pamela Nelson; granddaughter, Jennifer Nelson; and great-grandson, Harley Antholz.
