MINDEN – Dorothy Marie (Munk) Miller, 83, of Minden died Monday, February 6, 2017, surrounded by family. She was born January 15, 1934, in Heartwell, Nebraska, to Ernest and Marie (Filbin) Munk. She was a 1951 graduate of Minden High School. Dorothy married Anthony "Tony" J. Miller October 17, 1953, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Heartwell. To this union six children were born: Shellie, Nancee, Jeffrey, Jennifer, Matthew, and Michael to whom Dorothy was full time mom. Once all children were in school in 1973, Dorothy went to work at the Kearney County Assessor's Office until 1981. Then until retirement in 2003 she worked as a teller at the Minden Exchange Bank.
Dorothy was an active member of St. John's Catholic Church, as a member of the Altar Society and many committees serving her church family. She had served on the Lincoln Diocesan Orleans Deanery, American Legion Auxiliary, Kearney County Hospital Auxiliary and volunteered as a reader at East Elementary. She enjoyed playing cards, baking, coffee and socializing with friends, watching and cheering on the Huskers and Whippets, especially when it involved her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and was always there to lend a helping hand to others. To Dorothy, the Minden community was part of her family - she knew all and loved all. Of all Dorothy's enjoyments, she took the greatest pride in her family.
Survivors include daughters, Shellie Berry and husband, Steve of Kearney, Nancee Sinsel and husband Carl of Minden and Jennifer Miller and husband Donnie of Minden; sons, Jeff Miller and wife Diane of Minden, retired Lt. Colonel Matt Miller and wife, Michelle of Colorado Springs, CO, and Mike Miller and wife, Shannan of Hutchinson, KS; grandchildren, Steven Berry and wife Lindsey, Lyndsey Berry, Megan Berry, Morgan Sinsel, Thomas Sinsel, Katie Schmidt and husband, Shane, Jaimie Van Lent and husband, Jake, Conner Miller, Jarred Miller, MaShayla Miller, Katherine Miller, Hannah Miller, Gus Miller, Tyce Miller, Halle Miller, Brenden Miller, and Isaac Miller; great-grandchildren, Tyler Berry, Alex Berry, Matthew Berry, Cohen Schmidt, Camdon Schmidt, Creelyn Schmidt; brother Bob "Chip" Munk and wife Pam of Topeka, KS. Dorothy is preceded in death by husband, Tony; three grandchildren, Brett and Crystina Sinsel, and Thomas Miller; brother, Tom Munk; and her parents.
Rosary will be held at St. John's Catholic Church in Minden Thursday, February 9, at 7:00 pm. Funeral services will be Friday, February 10, at 10:30 am at St. John's with Father James Benton officiating. Burial will follow in the Minden Cemetery. Her viewing will be at Craig Funeral Home in Minden Thursday from 3:00 – 5:00 pm. Memorials will be designated by the family at a later date.
