Dorothy E. Scharff, 93 years of age from Minden died on Wednesday, May 25, 2016 at the Kenesaw Nursing Home. Funeral services will be on Tuesday, May 31, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Minden with Rev. Paul Blanchard officiating. Graveside service will be at the Riverton Cemetery in Riverton, Nebraska at 1:15 p.m. Visitation will be at the Layton-Craig Funeral Home on Monday from 3-5 p.m.

Dorothy was born on February 14, 1923 north of Riverton in Franklin County to Tom and Emma (Werner) King. She grew up and worked around Riverton. On August 26, 1943 she was united in marriage to Orville E. Scharff in Smith Center, Kansas. They started their lives together by farming south of Inavale. From there they moved southeast of Red Cloud farming and raising livestock. They purchased their first home northwest of Minden where they enjoyed the life of farming and raising cattle. They moved to Kearney for a short time and then moved into Minden.

Dorothy enjoyed being outside in her yard and garden. She was very active in the faming operation and even drove her own John Deere tractor hauling hay bales for Orville.

Survivors include her husband, Orville of Minden; sister Jolene Sanger and husband, Anno of California; brothers, Bob King of Idaho and Jack King and wife, Pat of Hebron, NE; and many nieces, nephews and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents.
