Elizabeth (Russ) Williams was born April 17, 1924, in Laurel, Mississippi to Lawrence and Jessie Russ. Libby always felt especially blessed for her mother, father, two sisters and one brother. She spoke of the wonderful childhood she enjoyed and tried in her life to emulate the lessons taught by her parents.
The family moved to Gulfport, Mississippi in the 1920's where Libby graduated from high school in 1941. World War II was beginning, and she was employed by the contractor who built Kessler Field in Biloxi, Mississippi. Upon completion of the base, she worked as a secretary for the Corps of Engineers. After several years she worked for the division office of the Mississippi Power Company in Gulfport.
In 1946, she married Jesse Williams, a young serviceman she had met during her time at Kessler Field. They made their home in Burwell, Nebraska. Libby quickly learned the differences in urban and rural life. However, she often said with love of her husband and the Heavenly Father, she learned things about responsibilities and life's existence that she never would have experienced otherwise. However, she never forgot her southern roots. Jesse and Libby were blessed with two sons Larry and Russ, who survive her, along with daughter in-law Cindy, two grandsons, two granddaughters, and 8 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Jesse, by a granddaughter Beth Ann Williams, her parents, sisters, Laura and Rachel and brother, Buddy.
In 1963, due to Jesse's declining health, he took a job with Allied Mills and they moved to Minden, Nebraska, her present home. Libby was employed by several businesses as their secretary and bookkeeper. Since retirement she found pleasure in golf, volunteering at the Minden Opera House and various fraternal organizations.
Libby enjoyed life and helping others. She was a member of the United Methodist Church all her life, and participated in the United Methodist women's organization as well as PEO and Eastern Star. The Upper Room was also an integral part of her daily routine. She took time each morning to use the meditation to give her strength and guidance for a new day.
