Obituary

Elmer H. Hinrichs, 96 years of age from Hildreth, NE died on Thursday, May 12, 2016 at the V.A. Home in Grand Island. Funeral services will be on Tuesday, May 17, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Hildreth with Reverends Steve and Patti Byrne officiating. Burial will be in the St. Peter's Lutheran Cemetery in Hildreth. Visitation will be at the Jelden-Craig Funeral Home in Hildreth on Monday from 4-6 p.m.

Elmer was born near Hildreth, Nebraska on November 19, 1919 to George and Anna (Braams) Hinrichs. He grew up in the Hildreth area and attended country school. Elmer served in the U.S. Army during WWII as an anti aircraft gunner.

On August 31, 1952 he married Jennie Schurman and they lived and farmed SW of Hildreth. They moved into Hildreth in 1990. Elmer was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Hildreth and the Hildreth VFW. Elmer enjoyed farming, plowing bees, old tractors, trains, reading, fishing and most of all his family.

Survivors include step daughter, Elona Hanson and her husband, Jerry of San Diego; CA; daughters, Pam Epley and her husband, Mike of Kearney and Bonnie Carraher and her husband, Ben of Franklin; 2 sons, Randy Hinrichs and his wife, Bert of Kearney and Terry Hinrichs and his wife, Brenda of Hildreth; 12 grandchildren, Kevin Hanson and wife, Laurie, Karla Hanson, Scott Hinrichs and wife, Crystal, Elizabeth Muller and husband, Todd, Ethan Epley and wife, Jill, Jenna Ballmer and husband, Luke, Chad Carraher and wife, Syd, Shannon Carraher and wife, Jessica, Chase Carraher and wife, Micki, Shane Carraher, Alexa Hinrichs and Bronson Hinrichs; 17 great grandchildren; brother, Marvin Hinrichs and wife, Irene of Hildreth; sister, Edna Sheffield of Kearney; sister in-law Dorene Hinrichs of Hildreth and brother in-law, John Gishwiller of Wilcox. He is preceded in death by his wife, Jennie, 3 brothers and 2 sisters.
