Gary, born on February 11, 1939, and raised in Hildreth, Nebraska, was the beloved child of Minnie and Henry Sanders. His journey began in the heart of this close-knit community, where the roots of his character took hold. Gary's formative years included joining the National Guard in Lincoln and attending Milford trade school, laying the foundation for a life dedicated to craftsmanship and community service.

As a highly accomplished carpenter and concrete contractor, Gary's work spoke volumes, earning him both admiration and, at times, polarized opinions. His dedication extended beyond his profession, making him a prominent community leader, commemorated with a street, Sanders Ave, bearing his name.

Gary's commitment to service was evident in his roles on the church board, both Kearney and Grand Island Homeowners Associations and involvement in the Hildreth Lions Club. His civic contributions extended to hosting memorable tractor pulls and providing essential snow removal services to countless homes in Hildreth. Gary's pride in his extensive John Deere collection was matched only by his skill in restoring several tractors which he would later sell.

Remarkably, Gary worked tirelessly until the very day he passed, a testament to his indomitable spirit and work ethic. He began Sanders Construction in 1958, marking 65 years of labor. His presence will be missed, but his impact on the community and the lives he touched will endure as a lasting tribute.

Gary's personal life was marked by a significant chapter when he met his wife, LaVonne, in 1961. Their union was blessed with three children: Jodene (Doug Schliefert), Joanette, and Jerel (Tim Richard). Their family grew to include four cherished grandchildren: Megan (Lance Wilson), Courtney (Marshall Siebke), Tessa (Matthew Konen), and Tanner Johnson (Bailey Coslor), along with four adored great-grandchildren, Bradlea, Porter, Maren, and Sawyer and one on the way.

While Gary and LaVonne later went their separate ways, the memories forged during their time together remained a significant part of his life. In 2004, Gary married Marlene (Bunger), embarking on a new chapter of companionship and shared joys.

Gary's interactions with his great-grandchildren and grandchildren revealed a depth of warmth and affection that might have surprised those who knew him in his earlier, more stoic days. The twinkle in his eye and the easy smile that emerged in their presence painted a picture of a man who found profound joy in the simplicity and innocence of childhood. It was a touching evolution that spoke volumes about the richness of family bonds and the transformative power of love across the generations.

In his later years, Gary displayed a remarkable determination to stay connected with the evolving world, especially in his efforts to keep "in the know" with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Seeing him fiddle with his iPhone, navigate snap chat or always use speaker phone to talk always brought smiles to our faces.

Gary was welcomed to his final resting place by his parents, brother Leon, sister Carolyn, great niece and nephews, along with many friends.
