Gene Charles Thompson, 76, of Upland, passed away on Tuesday, February 5, 2019 at Kearney Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, February 11, 2019 at the Minden United Methodist Church with the Rev. Peter Choi officiating. Interment will follow services at the Minden Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 10, 2019 at the Craig Funeral Home in Minden. Memorials in Gene's honor are kindly suggested to the Minden United Methodist Church. Craig Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Gene was born on July 30, 1942 in Minden, Nebraska to Charles and Dora (Ibsen) Thompson. He attended school in Minden and graduated from Minden High School with the class of 1959. He then attended technical school at Milford. On December 31, 1961, he was united in marriage to Carolyn J. Morrow in Minden and to this union, three sons were born: Charles, David and Jeffrey. The family made their home in Minden and later moved to Upland.
Gene worked as a mechanic for several area shops and later worked as the parts manager at the Holdrege Ford dealership. Gene eventually took over his uncle's shop in Upland and then worked at Big John's Ford in Minden. He later worked at Stadler Implement in Minden until his retirement.
Gene's hobbies included hunting, spending time with family, going for drives and vacationing in Colorado and South Dakota.
Those left to cherish his memory include his sons, Charles Thompson of Upland, David Thompson and wife Jennifer of Grand Island, and Jeffrey Thompson and wife Sarah of Hastings; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; sister, Shirley Loskill of Hastings; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Carolyn, sisters and spouses, Janice (Gene) Johnson and Jeannette (Andy) Paulsen and brother-in-law, Dick Loskill.
