Gerald "Jerry" A. Dickson, 85, of Kearney, formerly of Minden, passed away on Thursday, April 13, 2023 at Brookstone Gardens in Kearney. Memorial services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, April 28, 2023 at Craig Funeral Home in Minden with Al Hammar officiating. Inurnment will be held following the service at the Minden Cemetery with military honors presented by the Minden American Legion and Heartwell Veterans of Foreign Wars in conjunction with the United States Air Force Funeral Honors Team. The family requests those in attendance to wear casual attire. Memorials in Jerry's honor are kindly suggested to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Arrangements are under the care of Craig Funeral Home in Minden.
Jerry was born on July 12, 1937, in Sterling, CO, the second of four children to Ross A. and Mamie E. (Hanson) Dickson. His siblings are brothers, Burton William "Bill", Dale E., and sister, Rosetta A. Their parents moved the family to Minden, NE in 1943 where the kids attended Minden Public Schools K-12. Jerry graduated with the class of 1955.
In August of 1955, Jerry enlisted in the United States Air Force and served four years. He was stationed in Biloxi, MS, Itazuke, Japan and then transferred to Madera, CA to finish his four-year tour as a radar operator. Following his honorable discharge, Jerry worked his career as an air traffic controller.
In late 1957, he married Marie Lucille Burgess, and to this union two children were born, Kelli Louise and Gregory Allen, the couple later divorced in 1961. In 1964, Jerry married Jackie Bray. Jackie had four children: Terry, Edward, Steven and Christy, so now they had their complete family. The family made their home in San Jose, CA. They had a beautiful marriage, until Jackie succumbed to lung cancer in November of 2015.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ross A. and Mamie E. Dickson; brothers, Bill and Dale Dickson; wife, Jackie Bray Dickson; and son, Gregory Allen Dickson.
He is survived by his children, Kelly (Bill) Shaver of CA, Terry Frick of CA, Edward Frick of SD, Steven Frick of SD, and Christy (Todd) Wright of CO; eight grandchildren; one great-grandchild; sister, Rosetta Fulmer of Holdrege, NE; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, extended relatives, and close friends.
