Glenda Mae Stokes, age 78 of Ravenna NE passed away July 22nd 2017 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney after a long courageous battle with COPD. Glenda was born in Riverton NE on May 4th 1939 to Leona Edgar and Clarence Schriner. She attended Riverton Public School until 1956 when she married her first husband of 32 years Edward Duane Stump. Glenda purchased the Wagon Wheel bar in Oxford NE in 1981 and went on to receive the Nebraska Business Women's Award. Her loyal customers continued to pour in until she closed the doors in 2014 due to medical issues. In 1993 Glenda married Donald Stokes and they settled in Ravenna NE. After a fire took their first home, Glenda rolled up her sleeves and built them a new one. It was in this new home that Glenda added farming to her success. Glenda enjoyed learning new skills and excelled at nearly everything she tried. Her yearning to know everything about everything kept her going till the very end. She was a skilled contractor, welder and mechanic. In addition she was also skilled at pool. She received many trophies and placed in several tournaments. Her strong opinions and vast array of knowledge was often shared with anyone who would listen. Glenda also enjoyed attending horse races, fishing, camping, boating, gardening, playing cards and talking with friends and family.
Glenda is survived by her 5 children, Edward Stump and wife Shelly of Funk NE, Everett Stump and wife Joy of Norfolk NE, Bradley Stump of Oxford NE, Edith Stump of Ohio, Malinda Poley of Oxford NE, 15 Grandchildren, 12 Great Grandchildren, Sister Gaylene (Squirt) Hill, Sister Diane Willhelm, Sister Vikki Poppe and husband Rich, Sister in law Edie (Gus) Schriner, and many adored nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Glenda was preceded in death by her first husband Duane Stump, 2nd husband Donald Stokes, Mother Leona Edgar, Father Clarence Schriner, Brother Roger Schriner, Brother in law Jack Hill, Brother in law Dwight Hodges and niece Star Hill.
A public viewing will be held on Tues, July 25th at Craig Funeral home, 336 North Nebraska Ave in Minden NE, from 5pm to 7pm.
Funeral service will be held on Wed, July 26th at the Congregational United Church of Christ, in Riverton NE, at 2pm. With Reverends Baron & Nancy Cole officiating. Burial will be in the Riverton Cemetery.
