Gregory Scott Jorgensen was born on February 24, 1955, in Minden to Perry and Dolores (Krueger) Jorgensen. He grew up in the Minden area and attended Minden High School graduating with the class of 1973.
Greg played offensive guard for the Nebraska Cornhuskers from 1973 to 1977, serving as co-captain in his final season and earning Second-Team All-American honors. In 1978, he was drafted by the New York Giants but chose instead to return to Nebraska that fall as a graduate assistant, continuing his connection to the university and the football program that meant so much to him.
In January 1979, Greg married Sharon, and together they returned to his hometown of Minden to pursue his passion for farming and begin raising their family. Greg was a pioneer in no-till farming practices and land conservation, always committed to caring for the land and preserving its resources for future generations. He served on the board of the Natural Resources Districts (NRD), where he advocated for farmers and responsible water management. He also served on the board of the Minden Co-op for Stauffer Seed. In addition to his work in crop production, Greg took great pride in his cow-calf operation, which he continued to enjoy until his retirement.
Beyond farming, Greg cherished the time he spent with friends and family. Over the years, he enjoyed golf, trips to Lincoln to cheer on the Huskers in football and basketball, and trips to St. Louis to watch his beloved Cardinals play baseball. Greg and Sharon shared a love of traveling with friends, but some of their most treasured journeys were those spent supporting their children and grandchildren in their sporting endeavors.
Each fall, they made the trip to Omaha to watch Scot play football for UNO, building lasting friendships and a wonderful community with fellow parents along the way. As grandparents, they continued that tradition, traveling countless miles to cheer on their grandsons on the football field and their granddaughters on the golf course. Greg was immensely proud of his children and grandchildren—not only for their many accomplishments, but, most importantly, for the people they became. Their successes and the lives they built brought him tremendous joy and were among his greatest sources of pride.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Sharon Jorgensen of Minden; daughter, Emily Fuchs and husband, Scott of De Pere, WI; son, Scot Jorgensen and wife, Katie, of Minden; grandchildren, Hank Fuchs, Jack Fuchs, Gus Fuchs, KayLynn Jorgensen, Macy Jorgensen, and Samantha Jorgensen; brother, Jeff (Helena) Jorgensen; sisters, Kim (Paul) Winkelbauer, Lori (Greg) Kallenbach, and Lisa (Mike) Peters; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, extended relatives and close friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Perry and Dolores Jorgensen; parents-in-law, Thomas and Virginia Keating; an infant brother; and brother-in-law, Michael Keating.
