Obituary
Gweneth "Corky" R. Schmidt, 89, of Minden, formerly of Norman, passed away on Wednesday, October 1, 2025 at Bethany Home in Minden. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 9, 2025 at Craig Funeral Home in Minden with PMA Julie Schmidt officiating. Interment will be held following the service at the Emmanuel Lutheran Cemetery, south of Hildreth. Visitation with family present will be held from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 8, 2025 at Craig Funeral Home in Minden. Memorials in Corky's honor are kindly suggested to the family for later designation. Arrangements are under the care of Craig Funeral Home in Minden.
Gweneth "Corky" Rae Schmidt was born August 28, 1936 in Bertrand, Nebraska to Charles Henry and Vera Arminta (Cole) Dewey. She came from a family of 10 children: Betty Lou, Delbert, Donald, Doris, Buell, Wilbur, Virginia, Sharon, and Shirley. She grew up in the area and attended school in Holdrege. Corky was united in marriage to Harold John Schmidt on July 5, 1953 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, south of Hildreth. The family made their home in Hildreth and later near Norman where Corky took pride in homemaking and helping on the family farm.
Corky had a great love for children, providing childcare for many families through the years. She will be fondly remembered for her delicious homemade bread and cinnamon rolls. She had a green thumb and could grow almost any type of flower or vegetable. She loved embroidery and could always be found with a smile and laugh at the ready.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Harold John Schmidt in 2010, and her parents.
Those left to cherish her memory include her son, Steven (Angie) Schmidt and their children, Kolten, Kaitlyn, Kayla; daughter, Vivian Beaudette, and her son, Derek; son, Curtis (DeShawn) Schmidt, and their children, Chantel, Xanadu, Mariah, Jackie, Taylor, and Bryce; son, Barry Schmidt, and his children, Britny and Jessica; daughter, Julie Schmidt; great-grandchildren, Natalie, Blakely, Eva, Tuff, Rowan, Lincoln, Riley, Weston, Cameron, Gabriel, Bentley, and Adeline; siblings, Buell Dewey, Shirley Kennedy, Sharon Brungardt, as well as a host of extended relatives and close friends.
