Helen H. (Johnson) Nemecek was born on December 4, 1920 in Webster County, Nebraska to John and Hulda (Gragert) Johnson. She was baptized on January 2, 1921 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Blue Hill, and confirmed on May 12, 1935 at the Lutheran Church in Blue Hill. Helen grew up in the Blue Hill vicinity, attending school at District 81 through 7th grade and then attended parochial school in Blue Hill.

She was married to John J. Nemecek on March 30, 1943 at the Campbell Lutheran Church, and to this union two daughters were born: Patricia and Linda. The family lived on a farm near Campbell and the Rosemont area, before moving to Axtell around 1955. Helen worked at Bethphage Mission, now known as Mosaic, for 25 years.

Upon retirement, John and Helen moved to Minden. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and the St. Paul Ladie's Aid. She was an avid hand quilter of baby quilts, wall hangings and larger king-size quilts, making them for family members and people across the entire United States. These quilts are priceless memories for many friends and family.

Those left to cherish her memory include her daughters, Pat (Dave) Snyder of Kearney and Linda (Al) Vacha of Kearney; 6 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, extended relatives, and close friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, 3 grandchildren; brother, Leonard Johnson; and sister, Lillie Rose.
