Irene M. Hogeland, 94 years of age from Minden passed away on Tuesday, April 4, 2017 at the Long Term Care Unit of Kearney County Health Services in Minden. Funeral services will be on Saturday, April 8, 2017 at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Minden at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Christopher Hazzard officiating. Burial will be in the Minden Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour before services at the church. Memorials are suggested to the Lutheran Women's Missionary League.
Irene was born on January 5, 1923 in Jackson County, MN to Christian and Anna (Shulz) Petersen. She was baptized in the Lutheran faith and the family moved to Nebraska when Irene was four years of age. Irene was confirmed at the Zion Lutheran Church in Upland. She attended school in Upland and then graduated from Minden High School in 1940. She taught in rural schools in Franklin and Kearney County.
On July 9, 1943, she married Arnold Hogeland in Upland, Nebraska. They lived and farmed south of Norman, Nebraska. Irene loved to quilt, crochet and play cards with friends and family; but most she loved her family and being a member of the St. Paul Lutheran in Minden where she met many friends--may we all meet again in heaven.
Survivors include two daughters, Judy Medina and husband, Joe of Campbell and Lynn Simeon and husband, Steve of Kearney; son, Thomas Hogeland and wife, Val of Hildreth; 11 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren and eight great-great grandchildren. She is preceded in death her husband, four grandchildren, three brothers and many nieces and nephews.
