Janet Benson, 86 years of age from Minden passed away on Thursday, August 24, 2017 at the Bethany Home in Minden. Funeral services will be on Monday, August 28, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at the St. John's Catholic Church in Minden with Father James Benton officiating. Burial will be in the Minden Cemetery. Visitation will be at the Craig Funeral Home in Minden on Sunday from 2-4 p.m. Rosary will be recited Sunday at 5:00 p.m. at the church. Memorials are suggested to the St. John's Catholic Church, Bethany Home or AseraCare Hospice.
Janet was born on July 30, 1931 in Minden, NE to Harry and Mabel (Hansen) Schwenka. She grew up in the Minden area and graduated from Minden High School.
On December 31, 1946, she married Jack Benson and they made their home in Minden. Janet enjoyed family gatherings, the family all remember her fried chicken! She always loved to entertain and cook for others; she prepared for and served many people at the tailgate parties on Husker game days. She was a great hostess. She and Jack loved to have people over for pool parties. Janet was a member of the St. John's Catholic Church in Minden, the Altar Society and the Minden American Legion Auxiliary.
Survivors include two daughters, Cynthia Bunger of Minden and Michelle Seim and husband, Dan of Grand Island; son, Bentley Benson and wife, Peggy of Minden; 9 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Donna Schwenka of Minden and many nieces and nephews. Janet is preceded in death by her husband, Jack; son, J.D. Benson; granddaughter, Elizabeth Seim; son in-law, Ron Bunger; sister, Harriett Jensen and brother Dick Schwenka.
