M. Jenene Dorn was born near Crossville, Alabama on March 23, 1934, to Conner L. and Mary (Major) Davis, the 3rd of 9 children. She grew up in the Rodentown area and attended school at Crossville High School. One of her jobs growing up was picking cotton by hand. She grew up in a part of the country where southern gospel music was part of everyone’s lives, and it stayed with her all her life.
After graduation, she worked for the F.B.I. in Washington D.C. for 2 years where she met her husband, Norvin E. Dorn. The couple were married on September 19, 1954, in Kearney, NE. They lived near Minden all their married lives, raising their 3 children: Connie, Tony and Russell. They farmed and did custom harvesting. Jenene also worked for Pioneer Village, Paulsen’s Nursery, and Gealy’s Greenhouse.
Other than helping her husband, her favorite job was working in a greenhouse with plants. She loved tending to her garden and flowers. She also enjoyed cooking, sewing, and spending time with her family. Jenene was a dedicated member of Fredericksburg Lutheran Church and later Bethany Lutheran Church. She was a gracious person and welcoming to all. She was a hard worker, had steadfast faith and taught by example – with a true servant’s heart.
Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Connie (David) Bliss, and children: Amy, Jacquelyn, and D.J.; Tony (Karma) Dorn and children: Chandra and Jessica; Russell (Paula) Dorn and children: Greg, Becky, Barbara, Anthony, Erica, Emma, Kasie and Kaitlyn; 20 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Glenda Wilson, and Sondra (Jimmy) Stone; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, extended relatives and close friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, grandson, Jash Cowen; and siblings, Joan Walker, Sara Joy Nunn, Hugh Don Davis, Max Davis, Anna Alverson, and Benny Davis.
