JULIANNE CHRISTINE (Gustafson) CARLSON
Julianne Carlson, 92 years of age of Axtell, Nebraska passed away on Tuesday April 19th at Bethany Home in Minden. Funeral services will be on Saturday, April 23, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Axtell with Pastor Gale Dorn officiating. Burial will be in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Axtell. Visitation will be at the Layton-Craig Funeral Home in Minden on Friday From 4-6 p.m.
Julianne was born on October 29th, 1923 near Axtell, Nebraska to Roy and Maud (Johnson) Gustafson. She grew up on the farm north of Axtell, became a confirmed member of Trinity Lutheran Church in 1936 and graduated from Axtell High School in 1941. She attended Luther College in Wahoo and graduated from the University of Nebraska Lincoln in 1945 with a Bachelor's Degree in Home Economics.
Julianne taught Home Economics in Elwood, Nebraska until being united in marriage with Fred Carlson on May 25, 1947 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Axtell, Nebraska. She was a partner in the farming operation all her life, preparing meals, then hauling hogs, fertilizer or corn depending on the need and the season….and still would have the next meal on the table when the family arrived home. Julianne was the Cradle Roll Secretary at Trinity for many years, active in Lutheran Church Women, a volunteer for Bethpage Mission, and "wheels" for many neighbors until her vision failed. Memorials are suggested to the Trinity Lutheran Church in Axtell or the Bethany Home Building Fund in Minden.
Survivors include four children; Neil Carlson and wife Carol of Axtell, Paul Carlson and wife Karen of O'Neill, Kristin Roach and husband Lee of Omaha, Philip Carlson of Axtell; five grandchildren; Brandon Carlson and wife Arielle of Fort Meade, Maryland, Dustin Carlson of Omaha, Steven Carlson and wife Christine of Lincoln, Ann Wyatt and husband John of Aurora, Colorado, Jonathan Carlson and wife Vicki of Omaha; great grandson Josh Wyatt of Aurora, Colorado. Julianne was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Carlson and brother, Wayne Gustafson.
