LaVonne "Vonnie" K.
Sanders
Feb 24, 1941 — Oct 11, 2026
LaVonne “Vonnie” Sanders, 85, passed away October 11, 2026 surrounded by all three of her children. She was born on February 24, 1941, and lovingly adopted by Bertha and Leland Fritz as an infant. She was raised primarily in Upland, Nebraska, and graduated from Minden High School in 1958.
In 1961, LaVonne married Gary Sanders. Together, they raised three children: Jodene (Doug) Schliefert, Joanette Worster, and Jerel (Tim) Sanders. A dedicated homemaker and secretary for Gary’s business. LaVonne worked tirelessly until they parted ways in 1995.
LaVonne moved to Lincoln and worked for the Blood Bank in their support office. In 2010 LaVonne relocated to Austin, Texas to be close to her son Jerel.
LaVonne made frequent trips back to Nebraska to visit her beloved grandchildren and great grandchildren: Megan (Lance) Wilson, Porter & Maren Wilson; Courtney (Marshall) Siebke, Layna Siebke; Tessa (Matt) Konen, Bradlea, Sawyer & Quinn Konen and Tanner (Bailey) Johnson, Callen Johnson. One of her final joys was taking a ride in a 1979 Lincoln Continental, just like the one she used to own, reminiscing about cherished memories from the past.
LaVonne will be fondly remembered for her incredible talent in the kitchen, her love of gardening – especially her vibrant flower beds and her fiery, spicy personality that left a lasting impression on everyone she met. Always dressed to the nines and as trendy as an elder woman could be, she took pride in her style and presence. She treasured life’s simple joys, like enjoying a bowl of ice cream before bed, eating corn on the cob, sipping coffee on the porch and sharing lengthy phone calls with her children, grandchildren and friends.
Her family will forever treasure the memories of Vonnie’s vibrant spirit, warmth, unmistakable personality and love. Through she will be deeply missed, the memories she created and the love she shared will live on in the hearts of those who knew her.
There will be no service. Private family services will be at a later date. Inurnment will be held at the Minden Cemetery. Memorials in Vonnie’s honor are kindly suggested to the family for future designation. Craig Funeral Home in Minden is assisting the family. Tributes and memories can be shared with the family at www.craigfunerals.com.
