Obituary

Dr. Marvin B. Meyer, 91, passed away on Saturday, March 29, 2025, after a long and rich life. Memorial services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, May 19, 2025, at Fredericksburg Lutheran Church, south of Minden, with Rev. Donald Hunzeker and PMA Julie Schmidt officiating. Interment with military honors will be held following the service at the Fredericksburg Lutheran Church Cemetery. Memorials in Marvin's honor are kindly suggested to the Fredericksburg Cemetery, Minden Trap Team, or to the American Cancer Society (donate.cancer.org) and can be sent to Holli Giebler at 3342 Pinehurst Place, Fort. Collins, CO 80525. Arrangements are under the care of Craig Funeral Home in Minden.

Marvin Burdette Meyer was born August 1, 1933, near Norman, NE to Carl and Mildred Meyer. He was the third of seven children raised on the Meyer homestead. He attended elementary school in a one room schoolhouse before finishing up his early education in Minden and graduating from Minden High School in 1950. After high school, Marvin attended Kearney State College for two years before entering dental school at the University of NE in 1952. Marvin graduated from dental school in 1956 and spent his early profession as a dentist for the US Air Force. He was stationed in Harlingen, TX, Marianna FL and Kinston, NC before returning to Minden to set up his dental practice. Marvin ended his military service with the rank of Captain.

Marvin married his high school sweetheart, Sonja Grill, on Dec. 29, 1953. Together they raised four children in Minden, NE. Marvin is preceded in death by his wife, Sonja, his son David Keith, and his great-granddaughter Penelope. Marvin is survived by children, Brian Meyer, Brent (Dawn) Meyer, Heidi (Wade) Harper, Holli (Michael) Giebler; brother, Russel (Karen) Meyer; sister, Eleanor (Phil) Etzelmiller; and sister, Linda (Ralph) Layton. Marvin is also survived by eleven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Marvin's dental career spanned 40+ years during which time he also enjoyed many enriching activities including bowling league, trap shooting, golfing and bird hunting with his nephews and friends. Marvin had a zest for life and was able to enjoy many horse pack trips into the San Juan mountains in Colorado where he enjoyed playing cowboy with his friends, his brother and his kids. Marvin was a caring and loyal friend to many and a loving and caring father. His love of life and adventure will long be remembered. He will be dearly missed.
