He attended Hildreth High School and graduated in 1968. Marv attended Midland College and Kearney State College where he was a member of the Phi Delta Theta. In 1972, he moved to Colorado where he worked at the Coors Brewery as a bottle washer. During this time his father began having health issues, so Marv returned to the Keene area to help on the farm.

After many years on the farm, Marv changed professional directions and worked for Minden Machine Shop, Lawrence Huffman, and the Minden Tomato Plant. He was also a farmhand for Don Frerichs and Averil Lundeen. Marv was a skilled welder and had many unique creations including his very fancy mailbox frame.

Marv enjoyed spending time with friends including trips to Hawaii and often traveling to Colorado with the Hildreth Ski Club. His group also enjoyed many Husker bowl game trips. He was known by his friends as Marvelous or Jean Claude Von Dorn.

Marv cared for and loved his pet companions and had many over the years including: Angel, Dink, Penny, Skeeter "T" Dog, Shiska, Reggie I, II, and III. He was an avid listener to Rush Limbaugh and Sports Nightly Radio. He loved sports, especially the Huskers and the KC Royals MLB.
