Mary Ann Olson, 92, of Axtell, passed away on Tuesday, January 16, 2024 at Brookestone Gardens in Kearney. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 23, 2024 at First Presbyterian Church in Axtell with Pastor Logan Ellis and Pastor Gale Dorn officiating. The service will be streamed to the church's YouTube page. Private family inurnment will be held prior to services at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Axtell. A memorial book signing will be held on Monday, January 22, 2024 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Axtell. Memorials in Mary Ann's honor are suggested to Nebraska Children's Home, Lutheran Social Services or First Presbyterian Church in Axtell, and may be sent to the family at 4020 Aspen Drive, North Platte, NE 69101. Arrangements are under the care of Craig Funeral Home in Minden.
Mary Ann Olson was born in Phelps County on a farm northeast of Funk, NE on May 19, 1931, the first of three children born to Harold and Myrtle (Englund) Roads.
From her home she could see the Prairie Rose District 11 County School which she later attended. The school joined Axtell when she was in the eighth grade, and she graduated from Axtell Community School with the Class of 1949. Following graduation, she attended Scottsbluff Junior College.
Mary Ann was married to Charles Stanley Olson on June 24, 1951, in Axtell at the First Presbyterian Church, and from this union four children were raised: Dan, Jayne, Brian and Lori. They made their first home north of Axtell before moving to a new home in 1964 two miles west.
Survivors include two sons, Charles Daniel (Dan) Olson and his wife, Rhonda of North Platte, NE, Brian and his wife, Jeannene, of Axtell, and one daughter, Lori Brashers of Greensboro, NC; one sister-in-law, Sue Roads of Minden, eight grandchildren, Daniel Olson, Andrew Olson, Jason Krumback, Jennifer James, Stacey Krumback, Jonathon Olson, Allison Burns and Derek Brashers and seven great-grandchildren, two nephews and two nieces, and long time devoted friend, Don Norman.
She was proceeded in death by her husband, Charles Olson; one daughter, Jayne Adams; and two brothers, Bob Roads and Don Roads.
Her greatest joys were her family and attending many activities, including sporting events, 4-H Clubs, Boy and Girl Scouts. She was very active in the First Presbyterian Church, including the Women's Association, Mariner's Club, Sunday School, and Vacation Bible School. Mary Ann was an avid Nebraska Cornhusker fan and loved watching the volleyball team. Go Huskers!
