Max Emory Popple, 78, of Axtell, Nebraska died on Saturday, May 6, 2017 at Bethany Home in Minden. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, May 11, 2017 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Axtell with the Rev. Gale Dorn officiating. Interment will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery north of Axtell. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 10, 2017 at Craig Funeral Home in Minden, with the family present. Memorials are suggested to the family for later designation. Craig Funeral Home of Minden is in charge of the arrangements.
Max was born on December 7, 1938 in Kearney, NE to William L. and Etta (Soderquist) Popple. He grew up in Axtell and received his education at Axtell Community School and graduated with the class of 1956. In June of 1957 he married Susan Vannoy. To this union five children were born, one daughter, Michelle; four sons, Steve, Tony, Bill and Sam. He was united in marriage to Lois Barta-Fox on November 21, 1975 in Axtell after which he graciously accepted two sons, Clinton and Clayton as his own. The family lived in Axtell where he was employed by Midland Coop (now CPI). He also lived in White Water, WI, and Gothenburg, NE, and was employed in farming, foundry work, road construction, and welding.
Max was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, Axtell Volunteer Fire Department, Axtell Village Board Chairman, and the Church Board. He loved working in his yard, going to his grandchildren's activities, dancing, all sporting events, and Nebraska football.
Survivors include his wife Lois Popple; sons, Steve, Tony, Bill, Clinton, Clayton and Sam; daughter, Michelle, 19 Grandchildren, 13 Great-Grandchildren; brothers, Frank, Brent, Brian and Ed; sisters, Peg Soneson, Sue Roads, Sandy Johnson, and Vicki Ericson as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Mike and Brad and sister, Colleen Warnken.
