Ned J. Berkeypile, 78, Heartwell resident, passed away on Monday, August 26, 2024 at St. John's Good Samaritan Society in Kearney. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 4. 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Westminster United Presbyterian Church in Minden with Rev. Sharon Rees officiating. The service will be streamed to the church's YouTube page. Interment will be held following the service at the Minden Cemetery with military honors presented by the Minden American Legion, Heartwell Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the United States Army Funeral Honors Team. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 3, 2024 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Craig Funeral Home in Minden. Memorials in Ned's honor are kindly suggested to the family for later designation. Ned J. Berkeypile was born on April 15, 1946 in Plymouth, IN to Clayton R. and Gladys (McCollough) Berkeypile. He grew up in the Minden area, graduating from Minden High School. He entered the United States Army where he faithfully served from January 18, 1966 to November 21, 1967.

He was united in marriage to Shirley F. Johnson on July 26, 1969 in Norman and to this union, four children were born: Scott, Amy, Lisa and Jill. The family made their home in rural Norman where Ned farmed.

Ned was a member of the Heartwell Lions Club and the Minden Rural Fire Board. He enjoyed playing cards, having coffee with his neighbors, and riding around on his side by side telling his kids "what to do". Ned and Shirley liked going out to eat with family and friends, especially to Valentinos buffet. He enjoyed wheeling and dealing while car shopping, attending concerts, demo derbies, and rodeos, and loved eating strawberry ice cream.

Those left to cherish his memory include his son, Scott Berkeypile and significant other, Nicole Simeon, of Heartwell; daughters, Amy Hickman of Kearney, and Lisa Berkeypile and significant other, Brad Hasbrouck, of Heartwell; grandchildren, Garrett Berkeypile, Brett Berkeypile, Clayton Hickman, Joe Hickman, Faith Hasbrouck, and AJ Hasbrouck; one soon-to-be great-grandson Hickman due in November; sisters, Sue Johnson and Ann Werner and husband, Jim; brothers-in-law, Leonard Johnson and wife, Connie, and Harrold Johnson and wife, Marilyn; sisters-in-law, Eileen Stratman and Roseann Burchell; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, extended relatives and close friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Berkeypile; daughter, Jill Berkeypile; parents, Clayton and Gladys Berkeypile; parents-in-law, Mable and Russell Johnson; brothers-in-law, Don Johnson and Gale Stratman.
