Randolph A. Groothuis, 82, of rural Hildreth, passed away on Thursday, November 13, 2025, at Accura HealthCare in Franklin. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, at Zion Lutheran Church, west of Macon, with Rev. Marcia Dorn officiating. Interment will be held following the service at the Zion Lutheran Church Cemetery. Visitation with family present will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 18, 2025 at Craig Funeral Home in Minden. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Randolph's honor are kindly suggested to Zion Lutheran Church in Macon. Arrangements are under the care of Craig Funeral Home in Minden.
Randolph Albert Groothuis was born on January 29, 1943, in rural Bloomington, NE to Ed and Sophia (Fegter) Groothuis. He grew up eight miles south of Hildreth, and attended District 22 grade school, Wilcox High School and Milford Trade School. He entered the Kansas National Guard where he faithfully served from February 14, 1966, to February 11, 1972.
He was baptized and confirmed at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Ash Groove and later became a member at Zion Lutheran Church in Macon. Randolph continued to live on the family homeplace and worked for Blank Motor Company in Franklin as a mechanic. After his father passed away, he began working solely on the family farm.
Randolph was a hard worker and enjoyed tending to the livestock. He could fix or build anything and always had a project he was working on. He loved spending time with family visiting, especially with his nieces and nephews.
Those left to cherish his memory include his brother, Fred Groothuis of rural Hildreth; sister-in-law, Ruby Groothuis of Funk; nephews, Joel (Traci) Groothuis and family of Wilcox, and Brad (Carla) Groothuis and family of Funk; nieces, Leta (Scott) Weibold and family of North Bend, Sharon (Tony) Krueger and family of Blue Hill, Michelle Groothuis of Kearney, Myrna (Collin) Emmons and family of Lincoln, and Michelle Screen and family of Florida; as well as a host of great-nephews, great-nieces, extended relatives and close friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Erwin (Evon), Marvin, Kenneth, Arnold and Ralph.
