Robert G. Duering, 95, of Kearney, formerly of Minden and Hildreth passed away on Sunday, May 13, 2018 at St. John's Good Samaritan Society in Kearney. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Wednesday, May 16, 2018 at the Minden United Methodist Church with the Rev. Paul Blanchard officiating. Interment will be held at the Hildreth Cemetery with military honors conducted by the Hildreth Veterans' of Foreign Wars in conjunction with the United States Army Honor Guard. Visitation will be held one hour prior to service times at the church.
Robert was born on May 4, 1923 in Rural Franklin County, to Edward and June (Glenn) Duering. He attended school in Hildreth graduating with the Hildreth High School class of 1941. Bob faithfully served his country from 1943 to 1946, during World War II, with the U.S. Army where he earned an Infantry Medal and Purple Heart. He was stationed in France, Belgium and Germany.
Bob returned to Hildreth from the service in 1946, where he farmed and raised livestock. He was a member of the Methodist churches in Hildreth and Minden. Bob was a past Commander and Life Member of the V.F.W. as well as the American Legion and Disabled American Veterans'. He was honored to have participated in a recent Hero Flight.
Bob enjoyed going to auctions and had an ear for music. His extensive record collection grew after each auction he attended. He was loved by his family and friends and was a very generous man; giving to his family, community and country in many ways.
Survivors include his nieces, nephews and cousins, as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Francis, Earl and Dale Duering; sisters-in-law, Meg Duering and Melva Duering; nephews, James Duering and Robert Duering.
Memorials are suggested to the Hildreth Senior Center.
