Sandra "Jo" Monthey was born on November 20, 1942 in Norfolk, to Clarence H. and Marjorie H. (Thomas) Silkett. She grew up in the Norfolk area.

She was united in marriage to Lloyd R. Monthey on August 31, 1962 in Winner, SD, and to this union three children were born: Scott, Shane and Stephanie. The family made their home in Minden, where she worked as a beautician for many years and was a member of the Minden United Methodist Church.

In 2005, the couple moved to Republican City joining the United Methodist Church there. Jo actively volunteered at the Caring Cupboard in Alma. She and Lloyd liked traveling all over the United States, especially enjoying five bus tours. She was an avid reader and cyclist, even participating in the Bicycle Ride Across Nebraska (BRAN) and completing the journey each year for 10 years.

She was a humble woman, that made everyone feel welcome. Jo was not just a wonderful person, she was a great wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. There is not a person she met that she did not make a lasting impact on. She will fondly be remembered for her contagious giggle. Jo loved flowers, plants, gardening, and canning. She was also known for making the best banana cream pies. She was a wonderful grandmother and loved creating lasting memories with her family.

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, Lloyd of Republican City; sons, Scott (Stephanie) Monthey of Holdrege, and Shane Monthey (Michelle Hamaker) of Overton; daughter, Stephanie (Ryan) Holt of Holdrege; grandchildren, Shelby (Blade) Holmes, Grace (Kyle) Goodwin; Riley Monthey, Chelsey Monthey, Katie Cunningham, Megan Monthey, Shanay Monthey, Michael McConnell, Brandie McConnell, Celeena (Kyle) Pedersen, Clayton (Jordin) Holt, and Carson Holt; 19 great-grandchildren (with more on the way); as well as a host of extended relatives and close friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Donna Owings; and one great-grandchild.
