Terrell Galen Marlatt, or Terry, as he was known, succumbed to lung cancer at his home on Summer Haven Lake near Kearney, NE. The son of Dwight and Marcella Marlatt, both deceased, grew up on the 4th generation family homestead just one mile south of his home at Summer Haven. He was 84 years old when his soul passed from this earth.
Terry will be remembered for his love of country, his enduring curiosity, and his lifelong connection to both family and the skies above. He served in the U.S. Navy and then the call of the wild blue yonder prompted his professional career in the design and manufacture of military defense aircraft. His favorite was the McDonald Douglas F4 Phantom Jet. In retirement Terry remained active as a firearms enthusiast, dedicating his time to precision shooting and rifle accurizing for competitive target sports.
Surviving to share memories are his son, Justin Marlatt, and grandchildren, Paige and Greyson, of greater St. Louis, MO, and his daughter Dana Pender (Fritz) of Mesa, AZ and her four sons, Alexander (Seattle, WA), Jordan (Minden, NE), Aiden and Joshua both of Mesa, AZ. Also surviving are sisters Shari (Harry) Straight of Albuquerque, NE, Gleness (Tom) Knauer of Santa Fe, NM, Vicky Marlette of San Antonio, TX; brother Richard (Kerry) Marlatt of Kearney, NE; niece Kameron Straight (Rhonda Davis) of Albuquerque, NM; nephews Greg Straight of Denver, CO, Rick (Kina) Marlatt of Las Cruces NM, Evan Marlatt of Kearney, NE, Pat (Meagan) Marlatt of Beatrice, NE, and Phil (Meagan) Marlatt of Valencia, CA; and four great-nephews and three great-nieces.
Terry was preceded in death by his parents and four grandparents, Curtis and
Amy Marlatt of Kearney, NE and Milton and Meda McCue of Hastings, NE. Also preceding him in death were 5 aunts and four uncles: Eleanor (R.L.) Martin of Minden, NE, John (Ethel) Marlatt of Del Norte, CO, Celia (Edward) Coyne of Holyoke, CO, Martha (Emmet) Hunsicker of Manhattan, KS, and Bonnie McCue of Denver CO and five of his 21 first cousins.
Memorial Services will be held at Mitzi's Pavilion, Yanney Heritage Park, 2020 West 11th St. Kearney, NE, at 11 am on July 5, 2025. Picnic for friends and family to follow. Inurnment will be a private event at Minden Cemetery.
