Vergie L. Hansen, 86, of Minden, passed away on Friday, November 9, 2018 at Bethany Home in Minden. Celebration of life services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 14, 2018 at Fredericksburg Lutheran Church, south of Minden, with the Rev. Donald Hunzeker and Parish Nurse Julie Schmidt officiating. Private family burial will take place prior to services at the Fredericksburg Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 13, 2018 at the Craig Funeral Home in Minden. Memorials in Vergie's honor are kindly suggested to Bethany Home in Minden. Craig Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Vergie Lee Hansen was born on July 25, 1932 in Minden to Thomas M. and Lillian Olivia (Smith) Thompson. After receiving some of her education in rural schools, she graduated from Minden High School in 1950. After graduation, Vergie enjoyed working at the Minden Floral Shop.
She was united in marriage to LeRoy E. Hansen on October 5, 1952 at the Fredericksburg Lutheran Church and to this union, two children were born, Steve and Lana. The family made their home southeast of Minden where Vergie enjoyed helping with the family farming operation. She took great pride in operating the combine during harvest.
Vergie was a member of the Fredericksburg Lutheran Church, where she was active in many church activities, and the Danish Brotherhood. She collected many types of penguin figurines and other items and enjoyed playing cards, especially Some-R-Set. She loved to travel and also enjoyed cooking and spending time with her family. She always kept up on her grandchildren's events and activities. Vergie endured many health issues throughout the years without a complaint. She relied on her strong faith in God to carry her through.
Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, LeRoy of Minden; son, Steve Hansen and wife, Cheri of Topeka, KS; daughter, Lana Hegarty and husband, Pat of Fremont; six grandchildren, Carla Hansen, Erik Hansen, Lauren Hegarty, Michaela Wurdinger and husband, Tim, Aaron Hegarty and Brock Hegarty; two great-grandchildren, Daphne and Jordyn Wurdinger. She also had a close relationship with her nephew, Dave Hansen and her niece, Linda Wendling and husband, Ken, as well as a host of close friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
